County Campsite
Carwynnen

The County Campsite Carwynnen, Carwynnen, Cornwall TR14 9LR is approximately 3 miles from the town of  Camborne, in the heart of the Cornish countryside. This beautiful rural campsite is surrounded by trees offering a bright and sheltered location for camping.

County Campsite Carwynnen is open all year round, to all members of Girlguiding, Scouts, uniformed organisations, charitable groups and other youth organisations including schools/educational and Duke of Edinburgh groups for overnight/residential stays and day bookings. Carwynnen is also open to external groups and organisations e.g. walking groups, arts groups, forest school etc.

Access and parking

Access to Carwynnen is limited due to the width of the approach road. The road is single track. A 17 seater, or smaller, minibus would be able to access the site but it is not suitable for a large bus.

The campsite has a ample free parking for those using the site. 

Main campsite 

This large, flat, sheltered grassed area is surround by trees yet is still open and bright.

The main campsite can easily accommodate from 36 - 50 campers as it measures approximately  40m wide X 25m long.

Small camping area

Set to the side of the campsite, as you enter, this small camping area is just like the main campsite and can accommodate an additional 24 persons as it measures approximately 16m wide X 25m long.

At the far end is a stone crop which can be used as a reflection area.

Dawn Hitchens Building

This building has a fully catering kitchen equipped for 45 people.

There is:

  • catering size electric cooker

  • 2 fridge freezers

  • sink and draining board area with washing up bowels

  • food prep area

  • urn and kettles

  • cutlery and crockery

  • cooking utensils

  • crates and trays

  • cooking pots and pans (for both indoor and outdoor use.)

There is a handy serving hatch from the kitchen to the outside of the building.

There is a storage area for tables and chairs and some outdoor games, e.g. grass skies.

This building has electricity.

Outdoor classroom

This recent addition adds a large undercover area that could be used for games and/or activities.

There are tables and chairs in the Dawn Hitchens Building that can be bought out and used here.

Toilets and showers

Our new toilet block is now finished, November 2024, so the campsite facilities are now modern and contemporary.

All areas have running hot and cold water.

All lights are automatic and turn on and off when the door is opened.

Floors and surfaces have been chosen so they are easy to clean and non slip.

Alongside the new toilet block the temporary toilet block still stands offering more basic facilities. There is no lighting in here or hot water.

Inside the main toilet block there are 3 toilets and sinks with hooks for towels.

The tempory toilets offer 3 extra toilets and sinks.

There is a separate single toilet accessible from the outside with hand basin. This could be used as a male toilet if both genders are present.

There is a large separate wet room for the disabled which has a toilet, hand basin and electric shower.

This is easily accessible via a little ramp. 

Around the back is another large wet room with toilet, sink and electric shower.

Shepherd Huts - New for 2025 Season

Two new Shepherd Huts have been added to the campsite.

Shepherd Hut 1 has 4 single beds.

Shepherd Hut 2 will have 4 bunk beds (funding dependant).

The Shepherd Huts provide an ideal alternative to sleeping in a tent and are charged at the same rate as camping per night per person.

There is no electricity or running water or any other amenities within.

Camp fire circle

There is one large campfire circle with lots of other small patrol cooking circles dotted around the site.

A large covered woodstore is close by for the storage of wood you bring to use.

Solar panels

There are now solar panels on site to generate electricity helping Carwynnen to become more green and cost effective. 

Defibrillator

A defibrillator is also fitted on site next to the solar panels.

Carwynnen is such a beautiful and peaceful site, which-ever time of the year you are visiting and has so many uses. It can be used for Community groups, e.g. art, yoga, etc, Home Ed groups, Forest School activities, Team Building activities and all sorts of outdoor learning.
