On Saturday 23rd April, Redruth North District ran an all-day event at Carwynnen County Campsite, to celebrate Earth Day 2022. We had over 50 members attend - a mixture of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Leaders and a Ranger & Young Leader too!
The girls were divided into four groups - Forests, Rivers, Oceans & Polar Places - and they worked their way around a variety of activities throughout the day: an introductory "scavenger hunt with a difference", making seed bombs and bug hotels, re-using old fabric to make lavender bags and bunting, completing an obstacle course, experimenting with different natural materials to filter dirty water and, of course, cooking s'mores and singing around the campfire.
The girls were all amazing - every individual member, whether 4 or 14, approached every activity with enthusiasm. As a group, they worked and played together as one cohesive guiding community, with the older girls naturally adopting a nurturing role, helping the younger ones with the activities and entertaining them with games and play at lunchtime. It was wonderful to watch them.
